Hunt Safety
At Poplar Springs Farm, your safety is our goal. The following rules and
regulations are in place to ensure that your hunting adventure is a safe
experience. We reserve the right to refuse hunting to any person who fails
to exhibit proper safety procedures. Hunters are subject to inspection by
State and Federal officials.
RULES & REGULATIONS
- A North
Carolina hunting license or preserve license is required. We do not provide
licenses, however they are available at your local sporting goods store for
$15.00.
- We allow only shot size #7 1/2, 8, 8 1/2, and 9.

- Each hunter must bring a "hunter orange" hat or vest to wear during the hunt.
- Consumption of alcohol is prohibited before and during the hunts.
- Game must be tagged and registered before leaving the preserve grounds.
- Each guide can take up to 4 hunters per hunt.
TEN COMMANDMENTS OF SHOOTING SAFETY
- Treat every firearm with the same respect due a loaded firearm.
- Control the direction of your firearm's muzzle. Carry your firearm safely, keeping the safety on until ready to shoot.
- Identify your target and what is beyond it. Know the identifying features of the game you hunt.
- Be sure the barrel and action are clear of obstructions and that you have only ammunition of the proper size for the firearm you are carrying.
- Unload firearm when not in use. Leave the actions open. Firearms should be carried empty in cases to and from shooting area.
- Never point a firearm at anything you do not want to shoot. Avoid all horseplay with a firearm.
- Never climb a fence or tree, or jump a ditch or log, with a loaded firearm. Never pull a firearm towards you by the muzzle.
- Never shoot a bullet at a flat, hard surface or water. During target practice, be sure your backstop is adequate.
- Store firearms and ammunition separately beyond the reach of children and careless adults.
- Avoid alcoholic beverages or other mood-altering drugs before or while shooting.
